Rafters Friday 20 September 2019 8pm

We are delighted to be back at Rafters this month with our own brand of harmonised singing that will not leave you sitting still for any more than a second or two.

We’ll be drawing on our rich repertoire of songs unashamedly borrowed from Americana, swing, bluegrass, folk and country traditions.

The first half of the evening brings musicians old and new to warm us up before supper and our main guest/s. We welcome new performers. See Graham at the door if you want to perform, but you will need to be there before the 8pm start.

If you haven’t been to the Fold yet, you are in for a treat. Run by the amazing Julie Lamb, The Fold is an intimate theatre style space on the 5th floor of Ranchhod House at 39 Webb St. It has a fabulous sound system, and lighting good for film and photos.

The way it works is this: the Saturday show is from 6-8pm then you wander down Cuba St and have a meal at one of the quirky cafes.

Here’s what people say…

“What a wonderful intimate wee place it is, with good sound and comfy seating to relax in while being crooned in the cocoon by the band for the evening.” Mary Livingstone, photographer

“What a great atmosphere this space has! 😎 if anyone is looking for an intimate performance space check out The Fold!“ Emma Davey, Musician

The Skiffy Rivets at BareBones Folk Club

At a Skiffy Rivets gig, harmonies are not something used just for choruses, they are a full time job for the three of us. Rather, it is the audience who are likely to find themselves beefing up the choruses, as we reach out with our unique blend of songs borrowed from Americana, bluegrass, folk, and swing.

This month we are delighted to give the Levin Folk Club a special preview show before we appear at the Wellington Folk Festival at Labour Weekend. As the set progresses, guest Cathy Dyer will also add her upright bass to the mix.

A Skiffy Rivets set never dwells for long in one place, as we tend shift gears and genres with songs that will move you, make you laugh, have you singing and tapping your toes and wishing you’d brought your dancing shoes.

Try out our Skiffy Rivets’ live studio CD Elbow Room – it has the same effect. We are told it has become many listeners favourite road trip CD – always making the miles go faster and putting a smile on their face.

Wellyfest Guest 26 – 29 October 2019

It’s going to be a privilege to play at the venerable Wellington Folk Festival over Labour Weekend. Our acoustic music is borrowed from Americana, swing, bluegrass and God knows where, so it will fit right into the amazing vibe of Wellyfest.

You won’t be sitting still at one of our concerts no matter how late you stayed up jamming.

During the weekend Pete will also run a slide guitar workshop where what you learn may surprise you.
